Kieran

My name is Kieran, I am 27-years-old and the Group Leader of 1st Brabourne & Smeeth Scouts. I am incredibly lucky and privileged to have been selected as 1 of 12 Unit Leaders from Kent to attend the 26th World Scout Jamboree in 2027.

The World Scout Jamboree is the biggest event in the Scout calendar. Held every 4 years, it brings together 50,000 Scouts from over 170 countries.

The Jamboree is being held just outside of the historic city of Gdansk, Poland. The theme of the Jamboree is ‘Bravery’, challenging participants to step up, take action, and make a positive impact on the world - a message that resonates deeply with everything it means to be a Scout.

I joined the Scout movement as a Cub in 2006 - 20 years ago this year. Scouting has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember so to now be heading to the World’s greatest Scouting event as a Unit Leader is something I am unbelievably proud and grateful to be doing.

This experience is far more than a 10-day camp in Poland. Leaders and Participants have already been through a selection process and, over the next 15 months, we will take part in a series of 8 pre-camps before finally heading to the Jamboree.

I want to make the most of the entire experience and come back as a better and more rounded Leader. It is rare that you are provided with an opportunity to meet so many people from across the world in one place - to share ideas, cultures, and learn from one another. I hope to bring all of that back to Brabourne & Smeeth.

I also hope that the opportunity to represent our Group on a global stage gives us a platform to promote the amazing work that happens here. We have a fantastic group of young people and an incredible Leadership team. Although we may be a small, rural Group, we are high achievers and have an amazing story to tell - I hope this helps us raise our profile and inspire more people to get involved.

Finally, I am also proud to share that I won’t be the only person from Brabourne & Smeeth making the trip. Dom, one of our Explorers and Young Leaders, has also been selected as 1 of the 108 participants from Kent. Seeing someone from our Group earn a place at an event of this magnitude is special, and I know he will be a great ambassador for us on the world stage.

Dom, we are so proud of you and the whole Group is fully behind you every step of the way!
